Operation

  1. Load product (in aluminium trays)into the solar dryer
  2. Check if temperature is within optimum drying range
  3. Turn on electric fans (i.e. if temperature is above optimum drying range)
  4. Open vent to regulate air flow
  5. Periodically check the products and internal temperature of the dryer to ensure effective drying of the products.
  6. Remove the product when its dried to aspiration
  7. Turn off the electric fans
  8. Clean dryer of debris

Routine Maintenance

  1. Periodically clean out the dryer by sweeping out the debris; usually after the days’ work
  2. Open the dryer when not in use, this will prevent over heating which might destroy or reduce the life span of the dryer
  3. Clean the surface of the Perspex (and solar panel) to allow for maximum absorption of solar radiation.
  4. Check for water leakages along the spine of dryer
  5. Flush out all insects before drying

Periodic Maintenance

  1. Periodically change damaged Perspex
